[Meta Ordered to Pay $25 Billion Fine Over Privacy and Content Moderation Issues]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on October 22, a court in New Mexico, USA, ordered Meta Platforms (META.O) to pay a $25 billion civil fine. The jury found that Meta violated state consumer protection laws over 43 million times due to misleading statements related to user privacy, data handling, and hate speech moderation. The Attorney General of New Mexico accused Meta of making false claims about user data protection following the Cambridge Analytica data breach and misleading the public regarding its content moderation and hate speech policies. The fine is one of the largest penalty rulings in U.S. judicial history.
