[UK FCA Launches Consultation on DeFi Compliance Guidelines and Crypto Asset Regulatory Exemptions]
Odaily Planet Daily News – The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has announced the launch of two consultations, one concerning guidelines for decentralized finance (DeFi) businesses to comply with anti-money laundering and financial crime rules, and the other regarding arrangements to exclude certain crypto assets from regulatory oversight following recent legislative changes. The FCA stated that the proposed DeFi guidelines aim to clarify existing rules rather than establish new policies. The FCA is also consulting on regulatory exemptions for crypto assets. The UK Cryptoasset Business Council commented that DeFi is one of the most innovative areas within financial services, and the UK should establish clear and proportionate regulatory boundaries to foster responsible innovation domestically. The FCA opened applications for the new crypto regulatory regime on September 30, with businesses required to achieve compliance by February 28, 2027. The regime covers stablecoin custody arrangements and reserve assets, and is expected to take effect starting October 2027. (Cointelegraph)
