The most ironic thing about Bitcoin: even Michael Saylor once sold at the bottom! Everyone knows that Michael Saylor, the founder of Strategy, is one of the most well-known Bitcoin long-term bulls in the world. But this chart raises a very interesting question: If Bitcoin’s long-term value is so high, why did even Saylor choose to sell at one point? At the end of 2022, Strategy sold 704 BTC, which was near the bottom of the Bitcoin bear market. However, many people overlook a key detail: This transaction was primarily for tax-loss harvesting, not because Saylor suddenly turned bearish on Bitcoin. Strategy later repurchased more BTC and has continued to maintain a long-term holding strategy overall. As for the 6,948 BTC marked as sold in 2026 on the chart, we can’t confirm from this chart alone whether the transaction actually occurred or if it was an active sale by Saylor or Strategy. That said, this situation reminds me of a very important investment principle: Even if you’re bullish on an asset long-term, it doesn’t mean you can never sell. Selling could be for tax planning, portfolio rebalancing, liquidity needs, or risk management. A truly mature investor shouldn’t treat “never selling” as a belief system. Being long-term bullish is an investment perspective, while managing your position is a separate matter. I always emphasize: You can be very optimistic about Bitcoin’s long-term growth. But your trading decisions must still be based on your own financial needs, risk tolerance, and investment system. The truly skilled investors aren’t the ones who never sell, but those who know why they buy, why they hold, and under what circumstances they should sell. Do you think being long-term bullish on Bitcoin means you should never sell? Manage your position responsibly.
