The prediction market is getting a major shake-up! Kalshi took just 16 months to knock Polymarket off its throne!
This Bloomberg chart reveals an ongoing battle for market share.
In just 16 months, Kalshi’s trading volume market share:
Skyrocketed from around 10% to 80%!
Meanwhile, Polymarket, once the dominant leader, saw its market share eroded.
From being a market challenger to capturing roughly 80% of trading volume market share—this growth rate is absolutely mind-blowing!
But I think the real question worth exploring isn’t just how much Kalshi has grown.
It’s this:
How did a platform that was once overshadowed by its competitor manage to completely flip the market landscape in such a short time?
Prediction markets are evolving from a niche product in the crypto space to a broader financial and information market.
Political elections, economic data, Fed rate decisions, sports events…
More and more events are being turned into tradable markets, creating real-time prices and probability forecasts.
And Kalshi’s rise shows us one thing:
Even in an industry with an established leader, the competitive landscape is never set in stone.
Product positioning, regulatory compliance, user experience, liquidity, and distribution capabilities can all rewrite market share in a short period of time.
Especially in emerging industries, today’s leader isn’t guaranteed to be tomorrow’s winner.
But keep in mind, this chart compares the *nominal trading volume market share* of specific platforms—it doesn’t reflect user numbers, revenue, or profitability. So, we can’t assume Kalshi’s growth is entirely due to its focused strategy just from this chart.
However, one thing is crystal clear:
The competition in the prediction market is entering a whole new phase.
The next question is:
Can Kalshi hold onto its 80% market share, or will Polymarket stage a comeback?
This war might just be getting started.
