[Survey Reveals Hackers Using AI Tools Like Grok to Launch Automated Attacks on Financial Institutions]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, a survey conducted by cybersecurity startup Straiker reveals that a hacker group named CyberCartel has built a network of AI agents powered by large models from multiple vendors, including Anthropic and SpaceX. This system has been used to launch automated cyberattacks targeting over 400 financial institutions in Latin America.
The research report is among the first to detail how cybercriminals have successfully utilized AI models to carry out automated attacks and infiltrate financial institutions. Straiker's findings indicate that CyberCartel, a hacker group that has long targeted Latin American enterprises, aimed this attack at several banks and payment applications. The AI agents employed by the group are capable of autonomously stealing passwords, customer data, and accessing users' bank accounts, with minimal human intervention throughout the process.
