Regulation is indirectly giving stablecoins a green light
The first detailed draft of the U.S. Stablecoin Act GENIUS Act was finalized today. The clause in the draft that 'default prohibits third parties from offering rewards on stablecoins' was directly removed by the OCC (the federal agency overseeing national banks) and changed to a case-by-case review. Rewards are essentially disguised interest, and this is what banks fear the most: keeping money in the bank earns little interest, but switching to stablecoins on platforms generates returns, so deposits naturally flow out.
The door isn’t fully open, but the lock has already been removed.
