[Sixty-Year-Old Retired Woman Deceived by 'Fake Tenant' into Investing in Cryptocurrency, Losing Over HK$4.5 Million] Deep Tide TechFlow reports: On October 21, according to Hui Kong Information, the Hong Kong police stated on the social media platform 'CyberDefender' that they received over 50 investment fraud cases in the past week, involving losses exceeding HK$30 million. One case involved a sixty-year-old retired woman who met a man claiming to be interested in renting a property through a real estate platform. The man, posing as an 'investment expert,' persuaded her to invest in cryptocurrency. Following his instructions, the victim visited physical cryptocurrency exchange shops 20 times to purchase Tether (USDT) and transferred the funds to the scammer's designated electronic wallet for the purchase of Ethereum (ETH). Initially, the victim was able to withdraw part of the funds successfully, which led her to continue increasing her investment. However, when she attempted to withdraw again, the scammer demanded Tether worth approximately HK$7 million as 'tax payment.' It was only then that the victim realized she had been deceived, ultimately losing over HK$4.5 million.
