Why is it easier to lose money after making a large profit in the first issue of Trading Psychology Research? I believe many people have experienced that one day when they earned someone else's salary for several years, they finally felt like they had found the right way. But often afterwards, the profit or even the principal is lost again, and then repeatedly recharged, repeating the cycle many times. Looking back, the real problem is not about "making money", but about the mindset and rules changing after making money. one ️⃣ Risk perception is numbed After making money, I subconsciously feel that 'I made the right judgment this time, the market is moving in my direction'. I dared to open a position that I didn't dare to open before, but now I dare to open it; The stop loss that was originally set strictly can now be relaxed or simply not set for now. Because I have earned before, I feel that even if I lose a little this time, I can still make it back later. two ️⃣ I want to further increase the profit Many people don't just bring up a portion of their earnings, but rather want to 'make even bigger profits'. The position will unconsciously increase, and the trading frequency will also increase. As a result, a normal drawdown erased the previous profits. More seriously, after the profit is gone, the mentality is more likely to collapse, and they start to use larger positions to quickly recover. three ️⃣ Stronger compensation mentality during losses If there is a loss after making a big profit, it will be particularly uncomfortable. Because you might think, 'I could have made a profit, why am I losing now?'. This gap can make people more prone to impulsiveness: shifting stop loss, increasing positions, or even opening larger orders in reverse. What was originally a normal loss eventually turned into an out of control loss. four ️⃣ The illusion of an enlarged account When the account changes from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands, the same 1% risk increases the absolute amount. Psychologically, one may feel that 'it's okay to lose money, there are still many accounts'. But if the proportion remains unchanged, the absolute amount of consecutive losses will be hurt. Many people are at this stage, sending back the money they have finally earned before. five ️⃣ Overconfidence after success Earning a large sum can easily make people feel like they have 'mastered the market'. Start ignoring the rules that originally made you earn money and instead believe in your own feelings. But the market won't be more friendly to you just because you've earned it once. Later on, I discovered that the people who can truly keep their money are not those who earn the most, but those who can maintain their original rules even after earning. for example Proactively reducing positions Firstly, allocate a portion of the profits Force yourself to take a few days off before watching the market Making money itself is not a problem, the problem is whether your rules have changed after making it.
