[Bank Negara Malaysia Launches SSDS+ Tokenized Bond Platform, Supporting 24/7 Settlement]
On October 20, Bank Negara Malaysia announced the launch of the SSDS+ platform for the issuance, custody, and safekeeping of tokenized bonds and Islamic bonds (Sukuk). The platform, independently developed by the central bank, leverages cloud technology and distributed ledger technology. In addition to supporting wholesale market issuances, it is also capable of facilitating the issuance of tokenized retail bonds for governments and corporations. SSDS+ has been integrated with the RENTAS+ system, enabling 24/7 payment and settlement: the former manages the transfer and ownership records of tokenized securities, while the latter facilitates the transfer of corresponding bond purchase payments using central bank money.
