**[GENIUS Act Expected to Take Effect on January 18, 2027, Stablecoin Enterprises Must Assess Compliance Pathways]** Odaily Planet Daily News: The GENIUS Act took effect on July 18, 2025, with a general applicability date set for 18 months after enactment or 120 days after the primary federal payment stablecoin regulatory agency issues final implementation rules, whichever comes first. The U.S. Treasury anticipates the general effective date to be January 18, 2027, with certain issuance and sales restrictions taking effect on July 18, 2028. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) released its primary implementation proposal in February 2026, and the Federal Reserve introduced rules on September 24, 2026, covering regulated issuers, reserves, capital, risk management, custody, and application procedures. Interim final rules effective September 30, 2026, have established forms and procedures for state regulatory certification systems. Stablecoin issuers must evaluate approval processes, prudential regulations, reserve and redemption requirements. Distributors and intermediaries need to analyze obligations related to exchange, transfer, custody, and associated financial services. Businesses holding stablecoins must review redemption channels, reserve arrangements, custody, freezing mechanisms, and counterparty risks. Those accepting stablecoin payments must distinguish between receiving payments for their own goods or services and transferring funds on behalf of others. Prospective issuers may choose pathways such as subsidiaries approved by insured depository institutions, federally qualified issuers, or state-qualified issuers. State-qualified issuers with outstanding issuance not exceeding $10 billion and meeting eligibility criteria may opt for state regulation. Payment stablecoin reserves must be backed at least 1:1 by outstanding tokens. Enterprises must also streamline cash flows, customer rights, compliance responsibilities, and product yield arrangements. Relevant issuers are prohibited from paying interest or returns solely for holding, using, or retaining payment stablecoins. *(Source: Bitcoin.com News)*
