Hugging Face CEO Criticizes Netflix Documentary 'AI Gone Wild': Overhyped AI Apocalypse for Clickbait Netflix recently released an Instadocs short documentary titled 'AI Gone Wild,' which tells the story of OpenAI's AI allegedly launching a cyberattack on the open-source AI platform Hugging Face. Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue shared his thoughts after watching it, saying he was 'deeply disappointed,' and criticized the film for excessively anthropomorphizing AI and fully leaning into apocalyptic narratives. He mentioned spending over two hours communicating with the production team, correcting inaccuracies, and explaining that AI agents are technical systems, 'not aliens.' However, the filmmakers chose to scare the audience for the sake of views. Delangue also pointed out that the documentary failed to address several key issues: the lack of regulation and monitoring for AI agents, how closed-source models' security mechanisms actually hindered their defense, and how they ultimately relied on open-source AI to hold the line. That said, he admitted it was 'an entertaining sci-fi flick' in the end.
