After mocking blockchain for over a decade, Bloomberg's finance host has finally changed his tune: Wall Street's underlying financial system might really be on the verge of a blockchain revolution! Joe Weisenthal, host of Bloomberg's *Odd Lots*, used to ridicule those on Wall Street who said, 'Bitcoin has no value, but blockchain technology has great potential.' He believed that if decentralization and censorship resistance weren’t necessary, traditional databases were faster and cheaper—so why bother with blockchain? But now, he’s publicly re-evaluating his stance: those people he mocked back then might have been partially right. What changed his mind? Hyperliquid, stablecoins, and the increasingly mature on-chain financial markets. Hyperliquid already allows traders to trade perpetual contracts for assets like crude oil, gold, and stock indices 24/7. Stablecoins can be used for cross-border payments and might even enable AI agents to automatically complete microtransactions worth just a few cents in the future. Financial activities that used to require coordination between banks, brokers, exchanges, and clearinghouses now have the potential to be executed on a single programmable infrastructure. Here’s a very interesting question: Global banks, exchanges, and financial institutions all have their own closed systems. Who would willingly move their core business onto a competitor’s database? Almost no one. But if the underlying system is a relatively neutral, publicly verifiable protocol, institutions could share trading and settlement infrastructure while still maintaining their own business operations and compliance controls. One of blockchain’s greatest commercial values is precisely its ability to solve the long-standing trust and interoperability issues between traditional financial institutions. Looking back at the changes over the past decade, it’s truly remarkable. In the early days, Bitcoin was dismissed as a speculative bubble, and blockchain was mocked as a technology in search of a use case. Now, Wall Street is seriously exploring stablecoins, asset tokenization, on-chain derivatives, and 24/7 trading. Even former skeptics are starting to reassess its value. The transformation of financial infrastructure is clearly no longer just a story told within the crypto community. Over the next decade, blockchain will redefine how traditional finance handles trading, payments, and settlements. When Wall Street starts moving its business on-chain, that’s when blockchain truly enters the stage to compete for the traditional financial market. #Blockchain #Crypto #DeFi #Stablecoins #Hyperliquid #WallStreet #Finance #Innovation
