Mastercard has opened early access to its AI agent payment system, Agent Pay for Machines, for developers after completing an end-to-end pilot with Coinbase, Base, Cloudflare, Ant International, BVNK, and AIsa. The system provides APIs for buyers and sellers, developer toolkits, and a sandbox environment, though it’s not yet commercially available. During a demo at Cloudflare Connect, AI agents completed 9 payments to two service providers using Coinbase's x402 protocol within a preset budget. The Coinbase Developer Platform provided wallet infrastructure, while Base handled on-chain settlement.
