Wu Blockchain has learned that the Hyperliquid Policy Center (HPC) submitted a comment letter to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), urging the approval of perpetual contracts and traditional futures contracts based on AI computing power for U.S.-regulated exchanges. These would cover GPU computing power rental durations (GPU-hours) and AI inference tokens. HPC believes that the price of AI computing power is highly volatile, and data center operators, AI developers, and lending institutions need derivatives to manage price risks. Perpetual contracts can provide continuous hedging tools without the need for periodic rollovers. HPC also suggested that the CFTC establish a reliable computing power price index standard, allow settlement using different reference indices, and prevent manipulation risks through market monitoring and position limits. The CFTC sought public comments on computing power derivatives listings this August but has not yet approved related products.
