Elon Musk's play of misdirection is absolutely legendary.
A few days ago, that flying new car—a prototype—sent the stock price soaring before it dropped, trapping a bunch of people.
Now let’s talk about SpaceX.
October 20: Earnings report
The day after the report, 28% of shares (1.3 billion shares) will be unlocked.
October 24: Another 7% unlocked (319 million shares).
December 8: The final 17%.
By the end of the year, a total of 2.75 billion shares will be unlocked.
At $147.9 per share, 1.3 billion shares equal $190 billion. By year-end, that’s $400 billion.
The company has $100 billion in cash on hand, so they won’t sell.
What will be sold are shares held by early investors and employees, with costs of just a few dollars per share.
So, all the news before and after the earnings report is just to prop up the stock price.
On the day of the report, they’ll launch a Falcon 9.
Give every kid a share.
RBC is hinting at some ambitious updates.
They pulled this off in Q2 as well—revenue beat expectations by 12.7%, but the stock dropped 8% that day.
Why? Because single-quarter capital expenditures hit $18.4 billion, with 86% poured into AI.
I don’t care about the earnings numbers.
I care about who’s buying those 1.3 billion shares the day after the report.
$135 is the IPO price. If it drops below that, it means the story isn’t holding up anymore.
Earnings reports are for retail investors. Unlocking shares is for early shareholders to cash out.
