This drama just keeps getting bigger. Previously, at ChatGPT's OpenAI, a Saudi employee named Alfozan was arrested for allegedly installing recording devices.
According to the latest court documents, after his arrest, a member of the Saudi military quickly booked plane tickets for his wife and kids to flee the U.S.
It was also discovered that over the past year, this guy had been frequently communicating via messaging apps with a member of the Saudi royal family. The royal family member reportedly told him, 'Saudi Arabia needs you more than the U.S.' and invited him to join a Saudi AI project.
Turns out, this royal family member is also a partner at the Saudi venture capital firm Raed Ventures, which has previously provided tech advice to Saudi government agencies.
Prosecutors have now revealed these details to suggest to the court that he might have backing from the Saudi government, making him a flight risk. They’re arguing against granting bail and want to keep this potential spy detained in the U.S. for further investigation.
