[U.S. Department of Energy: Plans to Convert Sanctioned Tankers into Compliant Vessels for Transporting Non-Sanctioned Crude Oil]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on October 20, U.S. Energy Secretary Wright stated that the Trump administration is pushing for some sanctioned tankers to go through an approval process to be converted into compliant vessels. Investors plan to acquire idle tankers and refurbish them for transporting non-sanctioned crude oil. Wright emphasized that this move does not lift sanctions on tankers transporting crude oil from countries like Russia and Iran but aims to convert these vessels into legally operating ships and ensure they no longer transport sanctioned crude oil. He estimated that there are approximately 1,600 vessels in the globally sanctioned 'shadow fleet,' and the related plan could ultimately add dozens or even hundreds of tankers to the legal fleet.
