Two weeks to go until the midterm elections, but gas prices in the U.S. still haven’t dropped significantly. A lot of folks think Trump has just given up, but in reality, he’s still trying to find ways to fix things from the sidelines. Unfortunately, these new methods are creating new problems—for example, lifting sanctions on Russian oil is making things tough for Ukraine. Especially since the majority still sympathizes with Ukraine, Trump’s public opinion polls are a complete mess.
There’s not much key data this week. In the short term, the most important event is next week’s Fed meeting. Based on what Fed officials have hinted at so far, it’s still highly likely there won’t be a rate hike in October. But that doesn’t mean they won’t take a hawkish stance during the meeting. Honestly, I think the chances of them being hawkish are pretty high. Then there’s the midterm election—seriously, Trump might as well have kept Powell around. Feels like Walsh isn’t making much of a difference.
Today, U.S. stocks finally saw a rebound, but the momentum is still pretty weak. The rebound is mainly due to the fact that Russian diesel can now be sold to the U.S. It’s barely a drop in the bucket, and Ukraine is still keeping a close eye on things. At this point, I’m just numb to oil prices. Trump really is all talk and no action.
Recently, Bitcoin has been pretty stable. I’m planning to keep lurking around the $80,000 mark. Crypto is still moving closely with tech stocks—let’s hope the midterm elections can bring some momentum this time.
