[NVIDIA Completes 104-Qubit Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing Simulation, Claims Required Qubits Reduced by 90%] According to an official press release from NVIDIA, the company has successfully completed a simulation of a 104-qubit fault-tolerant quantum processor using 8,192 GPUs on JUPITER, Europe’s first exascale supercomputer located at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre in Germany. NVIDIA states that this is the largest full-scale simulation of its kind to date. The simulation validated one of the mainstream methods for fault-tolerant quantum computing, known as 'magic state cultivation.' NVIDIA claims this method reduces the number of required qubits by 90% compared to previous approaches, and related development work has shortened simulations that originally took weeks to just a few days. NVIDIA believes that such simulations have the potential to accelerate the timeline for realizing practical quantum computers by several years.
