Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on October 19, according to Decrypt, the Bristol Crown Court in the UK issued a verdict on a home invasion targeting a cryptocurrency holder. Three men were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 5 to 6 years.
Case details reveal that defendants Terroll Paul (31), Mohamed Samagassi (37), and Pierre Madzou (30) forcibly broke into the victim's home in the early hours of May 15, assaulted the victim, and demanded a large amount of cryptocurrency. The victim sustained head injuries, and his sister immediately called the police. Authorities apprehended the three men at the scene.
The defendants later admitted to committing aggravated burglary. Ultimately, Paul was sentenced to 6 years in prison, Madzou to 5 and a half years, and Samagassi to 5 years.
This type of crime, where physical violence is used to coerce victims into surrendering their assets, is referred to as a "wrench attack." According to blockchain security firm CertiK, wrench attacks caused victims worldwide to lose $124 million in the first half of 2026, marking a 12-fold year-on-year increase.
