According to The Wall Street Journal, data from the online car shopping platform Edmunds shows that since January last year, new car prices in the United States have risen by about 4%. Measures introduced by Trump last year to impose a 25% tariff on imported cars and auto parts have driven up car purchase costs. After the tariff measures were implemented, prices for used cars aged three and five years surged temporarily but have eased in recent months. American consumers are bearing an increasingly heavy debt burden. To purchase cars, they are taking out more loans and extending loan terms to keep monthly payments within an affordable range. In September this year, the average loan amount for new cars in the U.S. reached $44,729, an increase of about $3,000 compared to January last year, primarily driven by overall car price increases, reduced down payments, and rising interest rates. The average loan term for new cars has been extended to 70.5 months, about one month longer than in January last year.
