[Vitalik: Ethereum Should Move Heavy Cryptographic Computations to Clients, Only Verifying Proofs and Results On-Chain]
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin further elaborated on the EIP-8288 roadmap on the X platform, stating that precompiled contracts and the EVM are not ideal locations for hosting most cryptographic support on Ethereum. This is because both rely on data that needs to be included on-chain, which often means occupying calldata space within blocks. He noted that even with PeerDAS and blocks-in-blobs, data throughput exceeding approximately 8MB/s would start to face practical pressure. Vitalik advocates that Ethereum should be regarded as the 'world computer for cryptography,' and content that does not need to be part of the 'main thread' for data and execution should not occupy the main thread.
