[Anthropic Announces Establishment of Public Benefit Fund, Commits 5% of Shares to Public Interest]
According to an official announcement from Anthropic, the company will allocate a portion of its shares to the newly established Anthropic Public Benefit Fund. Subject to shareholder approval, the company has initially committed 5% of its shares today. Subsequently, for every 50% increase in the company's valuation above a set baseline, the board may discretionarily allocate an additional 2%. The fund is established as a wholly-owned LLC rather than a 501(c)(3) or other charitable structure, and the equity held will not be used for lobbying or political donations in any country. Anthropic stated that the fund will be used for purposes such as making large donations to traditional nonprofit organizations and direct distributions to specific groups, with one key focus being addressing the labor market disruptions caused by AI (the company has previously invested $200 million toward this effort).
