Today, a lot of people are discussing the crisis of lost BTC being cracked by quantum computing or AI. It seems like both destroying it or letting hackers gain access would be disastrous. I think there could be a new proposal: set a 5-year (subject to specific evaluation) quantum-resistant migration period. After this period, assets at risk due to exposed public keys would enter a 300-year release period. The release curve can be further discussed, but it would require both the private key + computational power to mine. This essentially transforms the risk of dumping into a long-term guarantee of computational power to secure the BTC chain. Even if the original owner of the coins misses the migration period, they would still have a solo mining advantage period when they come back. Hackers, even if they crack it 30 years later, wouldn’t be able to dump everything at once. Instead, they’d need to add computational power, which would actually help secure the Bitcoin chain. In the long run, as various hackers crack private keys holding coins, many of them would add computational power to mine, making Bitcoin even more secure. Just a thought for the community to consider. The details can be further refined. @Jiangzhuoer2 @cz_binance @star_okx @VitalikButerin @saylor @Bitcoin @ChandlerGuo
