🐋 WHALE WATCH : TAO rose 49% in Q3 from $202 to $301. Bittensor shipped 8 protocol upgrades. Heres what changed.
=> Staking rewards
Root Reborn (v441) redirected root rewards into validator picked subnet baskets instead of auto selling into TAO. Curated Beta v450 let validators build those baskets with a 6.25% cap per subnet. The chain prices each basket and its yield. v448 made root claims predictable and cross subnet stake moves safer. Basket trading v461 is built but stays off until governance activates it.
=> Subnet ownership and emissions
The Emission Gate v440 requires subnets to beat a market set demand threshold to earn emissions. Idle slots stop earning. v431 made subnet ownership contestable by locking alpha tied emissions to price and shipped a new Rust SDK. v447 raised the conviction threshold for a subnet takeover to 18% from a single hotkey up from a 10% subnet wide bar.
=> Institutional activity
TAO Synergies (Nasdaq: TAOX) the largest public TAO holder added Bittensor investor Mark Jeffrey as an advisor. Grayscales Bittensor Trust sold 148800 additional shares to accredited investors backed by 2814 TAO.
Under the hood
v446 repaired historical alpha accounting and added Liquid Alpha consensus modes.
Root Reborn changes where yield flows. The Emission Gate changes which subnets survive. Which one drives the next leg depends on whether capital follows yield or quality.
