[ECB President: Eurozone Inflation Hits Record High, But No Need to Panic]
Jin10 News, October 18 – According to data released by Eurostat on October 16 local time, the final inflation rate in the Eurozone for September this year was 3.8%, higher than August's 3.2% and consistent with the preliminary figure announced earlier this month, marking the highest level in three years.
Recently, European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde stated that there are two signals that have not yet been observed, and once they appear, the ECB will need to take action. Lagarde explained that it is necessary to break down the inflation data, noting that a significant portion of the increase is driven by energy factors, with energy prices rising by 18.8%. This will impact overall prices, and there is particular concern about whether this round of energy price hikes will transmit through the entire economic system, causing second-round effects. So far, we have not observed such phenomena.
Currently, short-term inflation expectations have risen somewhat, but medium- to long-term inflation expectations remain broadly stable at around 2%. If medium- to long-term inflation expectations continue to rise from their current levels, or if clear signs of second-round inflation effects emerge, then action will need to be taken. For now, our measures are appropriate.
