[Claude Traces NSA Curve Seeds, Bitcoin Cryptography Remains Secure] According to a report by BeInCrypto on October 18, as covered by Jinse Finance, Anthropic disclosed that its Claude AI model solved a cryptographic puzzle that had baffled the field for decades in less than 30 minutes. The puzzle involved elliptic curves: several curves adopted by the U.S. standards agency NIST in 2000 contained seed numbers provided by the NSA, which had long been suspected of embedding backdoors. Claude traced these numbers back to ordinary computer programs from 1997 to 1998 that generated random values using clock time, and the results were reproducible. Anthropic stated that this further confirms that the curve selection does not contain backdoors or intentional weaknesses. The discovery earned a $36,864 bounty, which will be donated to charity. However, questions remain as to why certain numbers were skipped. Bitcoin uses the secp256k1 curve (not an NSA curve), and Claude did not find any vulnerabilities in Bitcoin. Its underlying cryptography remains secure against known practical attacks.
