By Saturday night, bitcoin:native was still hovering around $81,000, barely moving all day. Weekend markets are usually like this anyway. What’s really unsettling is the situation over at Hormuz. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed today that another supertanker carrying over 2 million barrels of crude oil hit a mine and caught fire—this is already the second one they’ve mentioned. UKMTO also reported today that on Friday, an oil tanker off the coast of Jubail, Saudi Arabia, was struck by an unidentified object, and the crew had to evacuate. Last weekend, everyone was hoping Russian diesel would help push oil prices down, but this week has been nothing but tanker incident after tanker incident. Oil prices on Saturday contracts are climbing again—Brent is nearing $110, and WTI has crossed $100. And just today, U.S. Defense Secretary Hegseth made a statement, saying Iran needs to either abandon its nuclear ambitions and negotiate a deal or face potential U.S. military action. Trump keeps saying Hormuz is under control, yet tankers keep running into trouble one after another. Now the U.S. is throwing out tough talk again—this situation isn’t calming down anytime soon. If oil prices stay above $100, inflation will be hard to bring down, and the Fed will have even less reason to ease up. On Friday, the Nasdaq already dropped over 2%, down 4.5% for the week. Tech stocks and Bitcoin are both having a rough time. Bitcoin still looks relatively stable for now, but if oil prices keep surging next week, it’s going to be another headache. Shoutout to @Gate, trade more markets!
