[Anthropic: Claude Designs More Efficient Quantum Circuits, Reducing Gate Count by Up to 17x for Certain Tasks]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports, on October 17, according to Anthropic's official blog post dated October 16, Anthropic collaborated with researchers from Harvard University to enable Claude to autonomously design quantum circuits. Across eight fundamental quantum circuit tasks in fields such as chemistry, optimization, quantum simulation, and number theory, Claude's designs required fewer qubits and gates compared to the best previously published solutions.
Notably, elliptic curve point addition is a core step in quantum algorithms for breaking elliptic curve cryptography. Claude achieved reversible modular inversion without storing branch history for the first time. Compared to the prior design with the fewest qubits, the new solution uses 12% more qubits but reduces gate count by approximately 17x.
In the DQI optimization algorithm, which is believed to offer super-polynomial quantum acceleration, Claude redesigned the most resource-intensive decoding step, reducing gate count by about 12x compared to Google's previous solution. Researchers believe these improvements can significantly lower the resource requirements for quantum algorithms, potentially accelerating the practical deployment of quantum computers.
