[U.S. Congress Proposes New Bill to Revoke Russian Energy Trade Licenses and Ban Future Authorizations]
Reported by Golden Finance, on October 17, Gregory W. Meeks, the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, introduced a bipartisan bill titled the 'Prohibiting Corrupt Russian Oil Transactions Act.' The bill aims to block what he described as corrupt deals between Trump and Putin, specifically the purchase and import of Russian diesel.
The proposed legislation seeks to prohibit the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation from investing in Russia's energy sector; revoke general licenses already issued by the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control and ban the issuance of future related licenses; and require the Trump administration to impose sanctions on Russia's energy sector.
Meeks stated: 'This deal will not lower the cost of living for the American people, who are already paying the price for Trump's self-inflicted, failed war in Iran. Instead, it will provide millions of dollars to Putin.'
Meeks further added: 'At a time when the U.S. should be increasing pressure on the Kremlin, Trump is cozying up to Putin, striking self-serving deals instead of standing with Ukraine. This goes against everything America stands for. Congress must act. Every member of Congress who claims to be outraged should support passing this bill.'
