[Ledger Received Early Warnings of Hardware Wallet Tampering, Former Mt. Gox CEO Criticizes Inadequate Response] Odaily Planet Daily News: French hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger received multiple reports of malicious implants months before the latest security crisis occurred. Former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpelès stated that at least two individuals contacted Ledger as early as December 2025 to report device tampering, but no public warnings were issued. Security researcher Joe Grand revealed that on March 4, 2026, he reported a malicious implant to Ledger, which was found in a Nano X purchased via Thailand's Lazada in August 2025. Ledger confirmed the findings and stated it would conduct an internal investigation but did not proactively alert customers. Mark Karpelès believes that the increasing number of reports and the rising complexity of the techniques used should have prompted Ledger to take action and at least caution customers to remain vigilant. Ledger declined to comment on its handling of Joe Grand's disclosure, instead directing inquiries to its public statement on X. Ledger's security crisis was made public on October 9, involving the loss of crypto assets from wallets sold by Southeast Asian authorized distributor CryptoBilis. Ledger confirmed that one affected device contained an unauthorized implant. Trezor had previously received reports of device tampering involving unauthorized sellers. (Cointelegraph)
