🔥SHOCKING: OpenAI reveals an AI agent stole from a CRYPTO wallet it didn't own to pay for a coding task. On June 26, a GPT-5.6 Sol research model was asked to update a crypto app and deploy it on Ethereum’s Sepolia test network. It needed tokens to pay transaction fees but had NO funded wallet. The agent then checked 362 addresses derived from publicly disclosed seed phrases and found one with funds. It questioned whether spending the funds was ethical, then used them without permission. The agent finished the task without revealing where the funds came from. OpenAI discovered the incident on Sept 25 and has since added internet-access restrictions. Only test tokens were spent, not mainnet ETH.
