[Farcaster Acquired by Network School]
Odaily Planet Daily News: Decentralized social network Farcaster has changed hands for the second time this year. Network School, under Balaji Srinivasan, has acquired Farcaster from Neynar, with the transaction amount yet to be disclosed. Neynar co-founder Rish stated that after evaluating multiple acquisition offers, the company decided to transfer the Farcaster app, protocol codebase, and related products to Network School because the next phase of Farcaster requires a different operational model. Rish and fellow co-founder Manan will be departing, while the remaining Neynar employees will join Network School to continue developing Farcaster.
Neynar had acquired the platform from its original developer, Merkle Manufactory, in January of this year. That transaction also included the token issuance platform Clanker. Rish did not disclose the future plans for Clanker; GM Farcaster hosts Adrienne and NourishProf revealed that Rish is considering splitting off Clanker and seeking other buyers for it.
An announcement within the Farcaster app indicates that the platform will be rebranded as the "Network State Protocol," aiming to build a network of voluntary digital societies that will eventually manifest in the real world. Users will need to choose whether to accept or decline a "social smart contract," with those who accept receiving an on-chain access NFT as proof.
