[Browsing Legal Website Ads May Also Lead to Spyware Infection Without Clicking or Downloading] Odaily Planet Daily reports that Bitcoin News posted on the X platform stating that Citizen Lab researchers have discovered the first publicly documented case of spyware being deployed through targeted online ads. Users do not need to click or download anything; malicious code can initiate infection once the ad is loaded. This operation, called 'AdFection,' targeted at least 45 Al Jazeera devices between 2024 and 2025. The operation is linked to the Israeli advertising company Discover-Tech and spyware supplier Candiru. Researchers analyzed approximately 4 billion ad bidding records and found that Discover-Tech's ads appeared on nearly 200,000 websites and applications worldwide, though ad exposure does not necessarily lead to infection. Discover-Tech previously conducted business through major ad networks, including Google, but has been removed following the investigation.
