[AI Investment Boom Conceals Risks: Gartner Warns Over $3.5 Trillion in Investments May Face Impairment] According to a report by Jinse Finance on October 15, market research firm Gartner Inc. has analyzed that by 2030, more than $3.5 trillion in AI infrastructure investments could face asset impairment risks, as the investment boom in the industry may outpace the revenue growth needed to support these expenditures. Owners of AI data centers will need to cumulatively generate $8.5 trillion in revenue by 2030 to cover capital expenditures and financing costs while achieving a 12% return on investment. However, Gartner estimates that during the same period, revenue attributable to enterprise and consumer AI businesses will amount to at most $3.6 trillion, less than half of the required level. Gartner predicts that cost pressures and limited differentiation will force over 80% of new cloud service providers to cease independent operations by 2030. Will Sommer, Senior Research Director at Gartner, stated that many of these new cloud service providers are striving to develop higher-margin software and service businesses, aligning their business models more closely with those of traditional cloud providers. However, only a few are likely to succeed.
