[Thailand's Crypto ETF Initial Inflows Expected to Be Only Tens of Millions of Dollars] Odaily Planet Daily News - Thailand's listing rules for Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) will take effect this Friday. James Butterfill, Head of Research at digital asset investment firm CoinShares, stated that the initial inflows for the first batch of products are expected to be in the tens of millions of dollars, and it is unrealistic to expect inflows to reach billions of dollars. After the new regulations take effect, Thai retail investors will be able to gain exposure to related assets through locally listed crypto ETFs, while investments in overseas crypto ETFs via domestic brokers will be limited to institutional investors and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. The first batch of Thai crypto funds will still need to obtain regulatory approval and complete custody and distribution arrangements before trading can commence. Butterfill compared the situation to Hong Kong. As of the end of September, global crypto exchange-traded products (ETPs) had $172.9 billion in assets under management, with Hong Kong accounting for $733 million, or 0.42%. He noted that some investors have already gained Bitcoin exposure through overseas funds or direct trading, which may limit local ETF demand. MFC Asset Management plans to launch the Bitcoin ETF Tracker Fund (MBTCETF-UI) in 2024, which will invest in BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). In the same year, ONE Asset Management will become the first Thai asset management company to receive approval for a Bitcoin ETF-linked fund. (Cointelegraph)
