[OCC Report: Some Banks Have Restricted Digital Asset Business Services]
Odaily Planet Daily News – The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has released a report on 'de-banking,' stating that some banks have restricted financial services to multiple industries through both public and non-public policies, including oil, natural gas, tobacco, firearms, and digital assets. The report highlights that certain institutions have limited digital asset-related businesses, including issuers, exchanges, and custodians, often citing concerns over financial crimes.
The OCC stated that the report was compiled based on an executive order signed by Donald Trump in August 2025, aimed at preventing what it referred to as 'illegal de-banking.' The report reviewed nine major banks but did not list specific cases related to digital asset businesses, nor did it fully quantify the scope of de-banking or related allegations.
OCC head Jonathan Gould noted that some de-banking decisions related to coal and firearms were not based on financial risks, with banks citing negative media coverage, public protests, and potential reputational impacts from supporting these industries. In November 2024, more than 30 executives from the tech and crypto industries had reported being unable to access banking services. (Cointelegraph)
