CPI is definitely the most important data release today. The broad CPI annual rate has risen more than expected, which is one of the biggest blows to the market. The market was expecting 3.6%, already higher than last month's 3.4%, but it actually hit 3.7%. This shows that overall inflation is surging and can't be suppressed anymore, especially with rising oil prices. Core inflation's annual rate also blew past expectations, and the monthly inflation rate either matched or exceeded forecasts. Rising oil prices are like poison for U.S. inflation, and now even Trump can't do anything about it. As of today, oil prices are still creeping upward. What everyone is probably most concerned about is the Fed's monetary policy in October. I got my prediction wrong in September, and I don’t dare to make bold statements for October either. But judging from the CPI data, the likelihood of the Fed raising interest rates in October has definitely increased. Personally, I think the Fed might not be that aggressive, but of course, I could be wrong. In this kind of situation, investors might not be feeling great. I haven’t placed my dual-currency trades yet today—planning to wait until after the CPI release and the U.S. stock market opens to make a move. Over the next few days, the focus will shift from macro data to earnings season. TSMC will probably fire the first shot. One @Gate, trade more markets.
