[Barclays: S&P 500 Earnings Expected to Grow 26.5%, Earnings Surprises Key to Stock Prices]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports, according to Tide Research, Barclays' October 12, 2026, research report indicates that S&P 500 third-quarter earnings per share (EPS) are expected to grow 26.5% year-over-year, with a forward price-to-earnings ratio of approximately 19x, lower than last quarter's 20.3x. 53% of the index constituents remain below their 200-day moving average. The top 10 stocks contribute 25% of the index weight and 74% of earnings revisions. Barclays believes that in a high-yield environment, market returns are closely tied to earnings delivery. Companies that exceed earnings expectations have greater upside potential, while those that fall short face harsher penalties. Historically, post-midterm elections tend to favor technology and high-quality stocks. Barclays maintains its S&P 500 target price at $7,950.
