[A Saudi Employee Arrested for Allegedly Hiding Recording Device in OpenAI Meeting Room]
According to a report by Jinse Finance, on October 14, based on statements from OpenAI and the U.S. Department of Justice, an OpenAI employee was arrested and criminally charged for using a concealed recording device in the company’s meeting room. The U.S. Department of Justice stated on Tuesday that Saudi national Abdulrahman Alfozan was arrested on October 9. Previously, OpenAI employees discovered a recording device hidden behind a television in an executive meeting room. Alfozan is currently in federal custody.
A source familiar with the matter revealed that Alfozan joined OpenAI in July 2025 and worked on the company’s product team. OpenAI stated that it used its own AI models to analyze the device and identified the individual who placed it in the meeting room. It is reported that the room is frequently used for discussions involving confidential research, product planning, business strategies, government affairs, and commercial relationships. The employee has since been terminated.
In a statement on Tuesday, OpenAI noted that there is currently no evidence indicating that the individual improperly accessed or stole model weights, source code, or customer data. The company has reported the incident to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which carried out the arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
