The unluckiest early Bitcoin investor of this cycle has emerged.
From 2014 to 2017, in China, under the guise of financial management, Zhi Min Qian illegally raised funds from over 100,000 people, amounting to a staggering 40 billion yuan. During that time, part of the raised funds was converted into Bitcoin. Based on the 2014 Bitcoin purchase price of 2,815 yuan, the current return is approximately 200x.
But this time, the location she fled to, the UK High Court, ruled that the rights of Chinese victims to this batch of Bitcoin must be determined according to Chinese law, not UK law.
Keep in mind, cryptocurrency has always been officially discouraged in China, with trading banned and its status as legal tender unrecognized.
This means that victims are highly likely to only recover their principal and interest at most, while the gains from Bitcoin's price increase over the years may not be accessible to them and could ultimately end up in the hands of the UK government.
