Vitalik Buterin: Public-key cryptography may still need one or two rounds of parameter upgrades Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin (@VitalikButerin) mentioned during an interview with Balaji Srinivasan (@balajis) at the Network State Conference 2026 on October 9 that he believes public-key cryptography will continue to evolve, but it may require one or two more rounds of updates in the future to further expand relevant parameters. Vitalik compared this process to going through a few more 'Y2K-style' upgrade milestones. He also noted that cybersecurity faces similar challenges.
