We previously wrote a tweet:
The Korean stock market is not a matter of whether it will collapse. It is a question of when it will collapse
Today, it has arrived ⚡ ️
KOSPI fell more than 6.5% during the trading session.
Samsung Electronics fell nearly 6%, while SK Hynix fell over 7%, marking its fifth consecutive trading day of decline.
Why today?
Because the last pillar supporting the Korean stock market collapsed.
Samsung and SK Hynix have completed approximately 80% of their $41 billion repurchase agreement.
Goldman Sachs warns: ammunition will run out in mid October.
Samsung's repurchase was actually terminated on October 6th.
Once the bottoming out stops, the index immediately loses its support.
Foreign investment has withdrawn a net $131 billion from South Korean stocks this year, making it the largest outflow in Asia.
Samsung's foreign ownership ratio has dropped to 46.38%, the lowest since 2008.
What about retail investors?
The financing balance decreased from 38.6 trillion Korean won to 33 trillion won,
The cash in brokerage accounts has decreased from 140 trillion to 100 trillion.
Foreign capital is running, retail investors are running, and buybacks are running out.
The buyer has disappeared.
Someone asked: Will the South Korean government be the last to take over?
Today, KOSPI fell more than 6.5% during trading, and the exchange has activated the SIDECAR mechanism to suspend programmatic selling.
But suspending programmatic selling does not change one fact:
When everyone wants to run, who will buy it?
The market doesn't need to never fall,
It just needs someone willing to take it when it falls.
However, there is currently no such person in the Korean stock market.
miserable!
