[Russia Claims Ceasefire Possible on Election Day if Ukraine Holds Elections]
According to Golden Finance, on October 12, citing CCTV International News, RIA Novosti today quoted Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov as saying, 'If Ukraine truly wants to hold elections, (Russian President) Putin is willing to order no strikes against Ukraine on election day.'
Peskov today rejected Ukrainian President Zelensky's proposal for a '60-day complete ceasefire to organize (Ukraine's) presidential election' and emphasized that Russia 'hopes to achieve a comprehensive peace agreement, not a temporary ceasefire.'
On October 11, during an appearance on ABC's 'This Week,' Zelensky responded to U.S. President Trump's remarks suggesting 'Ukraine should change its president,' stating: 'Please tell Putin, give us two months, 60 days of complete ceasefire, and we will organize elections. Ukrainian law prohibits holding elections during wartime.'
Meanwhile, Russia believes Ukraine's inability to hold elections renders Zelensky an 'illegitimate leader.'
