[NVIDIA Reportedly Halts Production of RTX 5090, Top Gaming GPU Makes Way for High-Priced Professional Cards] According to a report by Jinse Finance on October 10, NVIDIA may halt production of its most powerful consumer-grade graphics card, the RTX 5090, reallocating its core chips to higher-priced professional GPUs. Hardware leaker MEGAsizeGPU revealed that future production of GB202 chips will be entirely allocated to the RTX PRO series and no longer used for the RTX 5090. Another leaker, hongxing2020, shared what appears to be a factory notice, indicating that China-exclusive versions are also included in the production halt. Both products use the same GB202 chip series but differ significantly in price: the RTX 5090 features 32GB of VRAM and launched at $1,999, while the RTX PRO 6000, designed for AI development and design, boasts 96GB of VRAM and is listed on NVIDIA's official website for $16,000—eight times the price of the former. The RTX 5090 has already been out of stock in the U.S. market, with third-party sellers listing it for as high as $9,600. If the production halt is confirmed, consumers will have to rely on remaining inventory in the future. Additionally, there are rumors that NVIDIA is preparing to launch a 24GB version of the RTX 5080 to replace the RTX 5090 as the top-tier gaming GPU. However, the current RTX 5080 has only about half the CUDA cores of the RTX 5090, with 4K gaming performance approximately 30% lower.
