**[NVIDIA Reportedly Halts Production of RTX 5090, Top Gaming GPU Gives Way to High-Priced Professional Cards]**
Beating AI News Flash: NVIDIA may be halting production of its most powerful consumer-grade GPU, the RTX 5090, to allocate its core chips for higher-priced professional GPUs. Hardware leaker MEGAsizeGPU claims that all future production of the GB202 chips will be exclusively supplied to the RTX PRO series and no longer used for the RTX 5090. Another leaker, hongxing2020, shared what appears to be a factory notice, stating that even the China-exclusive versions are included in the production halt.
Both types of GPUs use the same GB202 chip, but their prices differ significantly. The RTX 5090 comes with 32GB of VRAM and launched at $1,999. Meanwhile, the RTX PRO 6000, designed for AI development, design, and rendering, features 96GB of VRAM and is priced at $16,000 on NVIDIA's official website—eight times the price of the RTX 5090. While price doesn’t directly equate to profit, the high-priced professional market clearly offers NVIDIA greater revenue potential.
The RTX 5090 has already been in short supply in the U.S. market, with some third-party sellers listing it for as much as $9,600. If the production halt is confirmed, consumers will have to rely on remaining inventory. A bigger shift might be a potential downgrade in GeForce flagship performance. Another leak suggests that NVIDIA is preparing to launch a 24GB version of the RTX 5080 to replace the RTX 5090 as the top-tier gaming GPU.
The current RTX 5080 has only about half the CUDA cores of the RTX 5090, with 4K gaming performance approximately 30% lower. Even if the new version increases VRAM to 24GB, it would still fall short of the RTX 5090’s 32GB.
