[Tom Lee: Strength in Cryptocurrencies and Tech Stocks Reflects Market Expectations of Looser Financial Conditions Ahead]
Tom Lee, Chairman of Ethereum treasury company BitMine, stated in an interview that prior to last week's non-farm payroll report, the market broadly expected the Federal Reserve to maintain a very hawkish stance, with projections of three rate hikes this year and a 75% probability of a rate hike in October. The latest non-farm payroll data fell short of expectations, and U.S. inflation data for September will be released in two weeks. He predicts that over the next six months, the one-off factors temporarily driving inflation will fade, leading to a continued cooling of inflation. This would provide the Federal Reserve with room to soften its aggressive rate hike approach, and U.S. Treasury yields are likely to normalize. He pointed out that the continued record highs in tech stocks and the strength in cryptocurrencies are themselves market signals—under a tight monetary environment, it is difficult for such risk assets to rally. The current market performance reflects that the market has already anticipated a shift toward looser financial conditions in the future.
