17-year-old Buffett
Had $5,000 in savings
Even without accounting for inflation,
That amount of money today
Is more than what many adults have saved.
Nowadays, young people
Mostly spend on credit.
We’ve learned plenty of tricks for borrowing and leveraging,
But Buffett
Learned about saving and deposits from a young age.
And that money
Was almost entirely earned by him—
Delivering newspapers and doing small entrepreneurial ventures.
It wasn’t given to him by his parents.
Here’s my take on this:
Learn from Buffett,
Start young.
Teach your kids to save first.
Sure, they might borrow money when they grow up,
But their early mindset will constantly remind them
That borrowing isn’t ideal—
Saving is the right way to go.
This is already a priceless cognitive seed you’re planting for them.
