[60-Year-Old Hong Kong Woman Falls Victim to Crypto Investment Scam, Losing Approximately HK$21.5 Million] BlockBeats News, October 4 – On October 3, Hong Kong police received a report from a 60-year-old woman. The woman had previously met someone claiming to be an 'investment expert' on an online platform. The individual later lured her into investing in cryptocurrency through an online investment platform linked to a fraudulent website. The platform subsequently demanded that the woman pay a deposit to prove that her investment account was not being used for money laundering. Between April 14 and September 22, the woman made multiple transfers to the designated investment account, totaling approximately HK$21.5 million. She later suspected she had been scammed and reported the incident to the police. After a preliminary investigation, the police classified the case as 'Obtaining Property by Deception' and assigned it to the fourth team of the Sau Mau Ping District Crime Investigation Unit for follow-up. As of now, no arrests have been made. The police stated that upon conviction, the offense carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison. [Original Link]
