[CME Halts Launch of 24/7 Crude Oil Futures Contract Due to Industry Opposition]
According to a report by Bloomberg on October 3, CME Group has decided to halt the launch of a 24/7 tradable 10-barrel crude oil futures contract and withdraw the related filing due to opposition from industry participants. Market participants expressed concerns that insufficient liquidity over weekends could distort WTI crude oil pricing, and continuous trading would increase pressure on weekend staffing, commercial hedging, and margin calls outside of regular business hours. CME stated that the product was originally intended to provide a U.S.-regulated alternative to the 24/7 crude oil trading products already offered by domestic prediction markets and overseas platforms.
